Pad printing, also known as transfer pad printing, is a very versatile process. It offers an alternative for the impossible to screen print items. Pad printing will allow the imprinting of three-dimensional objects. Pad printing onto a concave and convex surfaces is relatively easy for this process. The sheer volume of products that are pad printed enormous. Everything from CDs to disposable lighters to cell phone displays are decorated using the pad printing process.
Pad printing is a type of offset printing similar to lithography. There are four primary components in pad printing: the pad, printing plate, ink cup and the jig that holds the product to be printed. The ink cup floods the impression in the printing plate with ink. The ink is picked up by the pad and then it transfers the ink onto the product. This is a very effective process for printing both odd-shaped and flat products.
